This interesting...horrifying
...looking mushroom is in the "stinkhorn" family.
Edible, but it smells awful lol, I would not eat!
It excretes a very odorous substance within the top cap part, to attract flies/disperse spores....clever :/.
Unfortunately I rinsed this fun, dark brown, excretion off before I knew what it was.
I thought an animal had relieved itself on it because it smelled so bad!
I partially regret picking this mushroom, lol, beautiful color, but this mushroom smells & looks disturbing! 
Later stage, older mushroom, battered by hard rain, had fallen over & was laying flat on the ground, I nearly missed it.
